KALEMEGDAN APTThis is in a great location for visiting the Old City of Belgrade. Although a ground-floor apartment and only 100 metres from the main pedestrian street, it was quiet and safe with good facilities. The owner was most helpful on our arrival and she spoke excellent English.
The Serbian capital has risen from the ashes to become one of the best alternative tourist destinations in Europe. Having left behind its dark past, Belgrade today is a city that combines its history with modernity, with a charming old town and emblematic neighbourhoods that have nothing to envy from those of more notorious European cities. Also, its Orthodox architecture gives it a distinctive touch that you won’t find anywhere else. Rent apartments in Belgrade and come and enjoy a city that is undoubtedly on the rise.[See more]
The best of Belgrade
Kalemegdan is Belgrade’s most notorious attraction, an ancient fortress located on top of a hill that you can visit today, enjoying its natural park and its historical monuments Stari Grad is the city’s old town and it’s filled with cafes, restaurants and shops. Walk on Knez Mihailova towards Republic Square and enjoy the heart of the city. Meanwhile, if the weather is very hot, take a dip on the beaches of the island of Ada Ciganlija, in the middle of the Sava river. Regarding religious architecture, don’t miss the Church of St Sava, the Cathedral, the Church of St Marko and the Church of Alexander Nevsky, truly amazing works of architecture. The Nikola Tesla Museum is one of the most interesting ones in the city, as is the Aeronautics Museum.
As we already mentioned, Stari Grad is the city’s old town and its heart. Filled with cafes, shops and restaurants, Stari Grad is the real essence of Belgrade. Skadarlija is one of its most emblematic neighbourhoods, an area with cobbled streets and quiet squares that reminisces of Montmartre in Paris, definitely the ideal place to find your cheap apartment in Belgrade and relax in the middle of its quiet urban beauty. Vračar is south of the old town and it holds the best architecture in the city whilst Novi Beograd is the modern area of Belgrade at the other side of the river, ideal for shopping and leisure.
When to visit Belgrade
Summer is undoubtedly the best time to visit the Serbian capital thanks to its high yet comfortable temperatures, around 70ºF, because from October to April they go down to almost 50ºF on average including rain. With the sun out, Belgrade is a fantastic city and you will be able to go and swim and sunbathe at Ada Ciganlija.
Getting around Belgrade
Belgrade is still growing in terms of communications and that’s why its airport is still its best way of getting there, although it’s not connected with all European destinations, mostly Central and Eastern Europe. By train you can get to and from most Eastern European cities whilst inside the city, its public transport network is cheap if a bit uncomfortable, so try and walk everywhere you can if the distances allow it during your holidays in Belgrade.
Popular festivals in Belgrade
Belgrade is a city of the arts and, for this reason, its main festivals and events are related to it. FEST is its film festival which takes place in March and is known worldwide, whilst BELEF Summer Festival floods the city with musical and artistic outdoor shows between July and August.
