Om:
TOOMPEA. Toompea hill is a symbol of Tallin end it represents the history of the city.
Situated near the city centre (about 3km away) the limestone hill offers a nice panoramic view on Tallin, about 20-30 meters high.
On Toompea you will find Toompea castel, originally built in wood by residents in 10th-11th century. After the battle against the Danish, won in June 1219, they named the castle Castrum Danorum and they started to renovate it in stones, with high walls and towers (the highest tower is the “Pikk Hermann” with its 48m).
Today it is the house of the Parliament of Tallin. Just in front of the castle there is the orthodox Cathedral “Alexander-Nevski” and nearby the church “Toom kirik”. All this attractions, as well as the museum, are worth being visited. After the castle, it is recommended to reach the city by a nice walk in the nature.
