Mijas consists of three urban centers each located far away from the others: Las Lagunas, La Cala and the city itself. La Cala is on the coast and the city is in the mountains. Another factor that attracts tourists is the local culture with a leisurely pace of life, inherited from a touristic past that achieved a balance between the demands and speed of foreign tourists with the quiet pace of the locals. Throughout the year there are festivals and pilgrimages where the fandango de Mijas is danced. There is also awide panorama of international events, among them is the Biennale de Arte de Villa de Mijas and the Villa de Mijas Theatre Festival. Don't miss out on adding flamenco to your list of activities, a festival takes place in August dedicated to highlighting the gypsy spirit. In the summer months there are often evening concerts.
