DE WATERKANT. De Waterkant is a sub-district of the suburb of Green Point. The area used to be the old slave quarter of Cape Town. A number of years ago it turned out into a major residential area and became later on very popular. From De Waterkant you can walk to the city centre easily; the V&A Waterfront and the Table Mountain cableway are a quick drive away and the fashionable Atlantic beaches and trendy Atlantic seaboard suburbs are also very close.
This area has nowadays developed into a major tourism destination where most of these houses are now self-catering, Guest House or Bed & Breakfast establishments for the international tourist. The Village of De Waterkant is essentially a business area during the day, where people regularly live, work, lunch and shop, while by night it offers some of the city’s best restaurants, wine bars and clubs.
