Area information

MARIAHILF is the sixth district of Vienna, located southwest of the city centre. It consists of 5 neighbourhoods: Mariahilf, Gumpendorf, Windmühle, Magdalenengrund and Laimgrube. Mariahilfer Straße is Vienna''s most important shopping street in the north. The area contains quite a large concentration of bars, clubs, restaurants and shops. Sights: Flak towers and the Haus des Meeres Aquarium (The Aquarium Museum) Theater an der Wien, Naschmarkt- Vienna''s most popular market located at the Wienzeile over the Viennese River. It is about 1,5 km long and has existed since the 16th century when mainly milk bottles were sold ("Asch", for milk bottles led to the name "Aschenmarkt"). Nowadays, you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables from around the world. The market extends further along the Wienzeile every Saturday, when a flea market takes place. The unique atmosphere of the Naschmarkt is famous far beyond the borders of Vienna, and huge amounts of tourists visit the market every year.
