Alghero District Source
- CENTRO STORICO. The historical centre of Alghero is where you can notice better the Catalan influence on the city (the street names, for example, are written only in Catalan in some areas). You can also appreciate the architectural value of the city, with some churches such as Santa Maria Cathedral, and San Michele or San Francesco Churches. Furthermore, you can easily find a lot of restaurants and typical bars to enjoy the Sardinian popular tradition.
- LIDO. This residential quarter of Alghero, is situated in the northern area of the city, in the coast and is particularly dynamic in the summer period. The population has Catalan origin, which can be explained by the fact that the Sardinia was part of the Kingdom of Aragon. Therefore, one expressive part of the local population speaks “alguerés”, dialect of the Catalan.
This neighbourhood is next to the Historical Centre of Alghero which is the area of the city where you notice more the Catalan influence (in some zones, the names of the streets, for example, are only written in Catalan). From an architectural point of view some churches are distinguished, such as the Cathedral of Saint Maria or the churches of San Michele and San Francesco. In this neighbourhood you will find a mass of restaurants and bars of Sardinian popular tradition. Lido is served by a good network of public transport.
- RIVIERA DEL CORALLO. Riviera del Corallo coast is well-known for the presence and the production of the famous Red coral, one of the most unusual in the world. With a short walk, you can get in 15 minutes to Garibaldi Promenade, where you can find lots of bars and restaurants between palms and beach kiosks.
