• CORSO ITALIA. In this area you can find some of the most elegant buildings of the city. It is a residential area, but at the same time a commercial neighbourhood, with many shops, which makes it an ideal place for shopping. The old town is located 1km away and can be reached in 30 minutes by foot. Not far away you can find the Giovanni Verga Square with the famous Malavoglia fountain, the Court Palace (Palazzo del Tribunale), and the Villa Letizia, seat of the Prefecture . The sea is 1,5 km away: you can also easily reach the beach of black volcanic sand “S. Giovanni Li Cuti”. The neighbourhood is well connected with public transport. Every 15/20 minutes there is a bus “alibus” n. 457 that connects this area to the airport. The train station and the port are at a distance of less than 1km.
  
• PIAZZA DUOMO. It’s the heart of the Catania’s old town. From here you can easily reach all the most important monuments: the Duomo, the castle Castel d’Ursino and the Bellini Theatre opened in 1890 and considered tobe one of the most beautiful Italian Opera Houses. In the middle of the Duomo Square there is the famous Elephant Fountain, G.B. Vaccarini’s masterpiece and the symbol of the city. Very close there is the Via Etnea, the main commercial street. In 10 minutes you can reach the seaside: in the southern part there is the so called “La Playa” with sandy beaches and in the north the rocky coast. In the area there are many restaurants, pubs and clubs and open-air bars. This neighbourhood is very well connected to the rest of the city by public transport.
  
• OGNINA. This neighbourhood is north-east from the city Center, on the coast, and stretches along one of the most popular seaside walks. Even though the coast is rocky, platforms were built to allow sunbathing and easy access to the sea. Very close there is a picturesque fishermen’s port. In the area you may visit the Marine Museum and the Sanctuary of Madonna di Ognina. The feast of the Madonna is very important for the locals and is celebrated with a solemn procession. This area is residential, but you will find restaurants, bars, supermarkets and shops. You can easily reach both the Center and the airport by bus.
