Cologne District Source
- STAMMHEIM. This residential zone is situated at the northern border of the city of Cologne in western part of Germany. It is served by the S6 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn. Its situation is exclusive for those who look for a neighborhood to stay with easy access to the fair (9 minutes by train) as well as to the city center. The cathedral main station, in the center, is only 13 minutes far. In this area it’s easy to find supermarkets, bakeries or a post office within walking distance. Düsseldorf is 30 minutes far by car or train.
- SÜLZ.
- DELLBRÜCK. Is a quarter of Cologne, in the 9th District called “Mülheim”, in the north of the city. At the end of September, there is one of the biggest street celebrations in Cologne. There is also the Jazz Festival, which takes place in the autumn each year. For this reason, thousands of jazz lovers are attracted to come to Dellbrück. Every spring there are about 40 artists in the main street “Hauptstrasse” for the art gallery “Kunst-Meile”. In the 120 shops in the main street you will find, whatever your heart desire. There is also a lot on offer in terms of culture, as well as numerous things to do in your spare time; for example: there are spa centres, tennis, horse riding and more. For culinary delights, the many restaurants and bars with “Kölscher” and international cuisine offers something for every taste, even if it is for a good dinner or just a “Kölsch” (Beer of Cologne) or a coffee. You reach the city centre of Cologne with the regional train, the bus or tram in 20 min.
- DEUTZ. Deutz is is situated on the right side of the Rhine and is a part of the"Inner City" District (also the old town is part of this district, but it is situated on the left side of the Rhine). From Deutz you will enjoy a panoramic view on the old town (this was a Roman colony, that’s why the city has got its name), which you can reach crossing the “Deutzer-Bridge”.
In the area you can visit the Rheinpark, one of the most attractive parks in the city and find bakeries, supermarkets, pharmacies and banks.
In the main street "Deutzer Freiheit", there are numerous shops for all your needs, and nice cafes and restaurants. Cologne fair grounds are located also in Deutz, which is connected to the city centre by train station Köln Messe/Deutz of “DB Deutsche Bahn”. At the train station "Kölnarena" there are regional trains of lines 1/3/4/9. There are furthermore several public buses.
- NEUEHRENFELD. Neuehrenfeld is an area in the 4th District (called “Ehrenfeld”), and is located about 4km faraway from the city centre of Cologne. During the Second World War, part of the centre was destroyed by the bombings, but it is still possible to see historical buildings with decorated facades, most of all next to “Lenauplatz”which is the centre of the district.Thanks to the multicultural population of the area, you can fins easily a big variety of handy craft, shops, restaurants, wine bars and pubs.
The principal attraction is the 56m high colourful tower of St. Anna Church and the Chinese District Takunesien on the “Takuplatz” square.
Neuehrenfeld is served by city train No. 5 and 13, and bus No. 141/142.
- ALTSTADT-NORD. The quarter “Altstadt-Nord” (old town-north) belongs to the “downtown” district. Together with old town-south it represents the historic centre of Cologne, next to the Rhine. On the other side there’s the Deutz district, where Cologne fair is settled.
The main attraction is clearly the symbol of the city, Cologne Cathedral, situated in the middle of this quarter and which is considered a world cultural heritage.
Other attractions in the old town are the City Hall, numerous museums, the “Zeughaus” complex, Romanic churches and many historical houses.
In the old town-north there are also two of the most crowded shopping streets of Germany: "Hohe Straße" (beginning in front of the cathedral on the “Wallrafplatz Square) and "Schildergasse".
The district is served by tram, subway and bus lines. Also, Cologne main train station is situated exactly next to Cologne Cathedral.
