  • CENTRE. The city centre of Dresden consists of the historic part “Innere Altstadt”, where you can find the main attractions of the city: The church “Frauenkirche” on the square “Neumarkt”, the church “Kreuzkirche” on the square “Altmarkt”, the “Brühlische Terrasse”, the church “Hofkirche”, the street “Münzgasse”, and the baroque building "Zwinger". The square “Postplatz” is a hub of public transports, also with several shops. An interesting place from the architectonic point of view is the square “Theaterplatz” in the west, with its opera “Semperoper”. The “Innere Neustadt” is the newer part of city centre and is surrounded in the form of arch by the river Elbe. On the square “Albertpaltz” are many museums and cultural institutions. Throughout the city centre there are a lot of shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars. The public transports of Dresden consist of S-Bahn (underground), trams and buses, which take you to other neighbourhoods.
  • STETZSCH. Stetzsch is located on the left side of the river Elbe, about six kilometres northwest of the historic centre of Dresden. Stetzsch neighbourhood represents a quite distended urban complex, with a lot of space, many green areas, trees and small gardens between the houses. Stentzsch is located in the valley of the Elbe along the river, which is considered as a protected area with its special flora and fauna. The rail line between Berlin and Dresden passes through the neighbourhood, as well as the highway 6 and the bus 94.
  • LAUBEGAST.
  • LOSCHWITZ/ WACHWITZ.
  • BRIESNITZ. Briesnitz is a district in Dresden in “Ortsamtsbereich Cotta”. It is located about 5 km northwest to the city centre of Dresden, on the left side of the river Elbe. Along the river you can take beautiful walks in the nature and there are also bike paths. The district consists mainly of residential houses and belongs to Dresden since 1921.
The church of Briesnitz was built around 1100 and is one of the oldest churches in Dresden and Saxony. From here you have direct access to a protected natural area called “Zschoner Grund”, with a typical waterwheel (Zschonermühle) ideal for hiking. This is a very popular and quiet residential area. There are various shops and restaurants in Briesnitz, and public transport will take you immediately to the city centre of Dresden: you can catch tram lines 1 and 12, bus stops of bus line 94, and two stations of the rail line Berlin-Dresden.
  • COTTA.
  • SCHÖNFELDER HOCHLAND. This is the eastern district of Dresden. The different parts of this area (such as Schullwitz, Cunnersdorf, Eichbusch, Helfenberg, Pappritz, Rockau, Schönfeld and Weissig), are melting in three neighbourhoods: Gönnsdorf/Pappritz, Schönfeld/Schullwitz and Weissig.
They are located in a hill between 250 and 300 meters high, also known as “Schönfelder Hochland”. The highest point is a 384 meters-high mountain called “Triebenberg”, which is as well the highest point of Dresden. This area is perfect for hiking, biking and horse riding. In Schönfeld you can visit the nice renaissance castle. In Weißig there is one of the largest shopping malls in the region. In about 15 minutes by public transports you can reach the city centre of Dresden and the main train station.

  • STRIESEN. Striesen is a neighbourhood of Dresden in “Ortsamtsbereich Blasewitz” and it belongs to Dresden since 1892. Most of the old buildings of the district were completely destroyed During the Second World War airplanes attacks in February 1945. After that the area was extensively rebuild.
Nowadays the commercial street is “Borsbergstrasse” with “Kaufland” shopping centre, and the street “Schandauer Straße” with a lot of shops. There are also several smaller shops (particularly in the Striesen eastern part where many Art Noveau villas called Würfelhäuser are located), wine bars, pubs, restaurant and a cinema, the „Programmkino Ost“. Striesen is very well connected to the city centre by public transport. There are several tram, bus and train lines.
  • PLAUEN. Plauen is a neighbourhood in the south-western part of Dresden, about 5km from the city centre.
The airplane raids in Second World War seriously damaged Plauen especially in the northern part. During the reconstruction a modern hotel was built on the street “Bamberger Straße”, as well as the “Falkenbrunnen” with a large shopping centre. The centre of the neigbourhood is in the square “F.-C.-Weiskopf-Platz” with the fountain “Müllerbrunnen”, where you will find a lot of shops and restaurants, as well as the town hall “Plauener Rathaus” (built between 1893/94).
Near this zone there is also the architecturally interesting church “Auferstehungskirche”. You can also visit the park “Fichtepark”, with a 30m high tower, built in 1896, called „Fichteturm“. From the tower you have a view on a large part of Dresden.
Plauen can be reached with the bus lines 82 and 89, tram line 3, the S-Bahn S3 or the highway A17.
  • NEUSTADT. “Ortsamtsbereich Neustadt” is divided into two main districts: “Innere Neustadt” and “Äußere Neustadt”.
The first one is situated next to the river Elbe and there you will find a lot of historic buildings, museums, the Albert Square, the “Königstrasse” (King Street) and the church “Dreikönigskirche”. There are also many shops, because it is part of the commercial area of the city centre of Dresden.
The second one “Äußere Neustadt” is a young district, with the Martin Luther Square and his church. In the streets Alaun and Louisenstraße you will find many restaurants and shops. Other parts of Neustadt are “Leipziger Vorstadt” with “Hechtviertel”, “Radeberger Vorstadt” with “Waldschlösschenviertel” and also “Albertstadt”. It is recommended to use the tram and the public transportation to move around in the centre, it’s not easy to find car parking in the historical centre.
