  • BAIRRO ALTO The Bairro alto is located on the opposite hill from the Alfama and is linked to the Baixa via a fashionable shopping street named Garret, where you will find some of Lisbon’s select society shops selling internationally famous brand names alongside with national products.
    The Chiado has its own special local cafes,a popular meeting place for its writers and artists.
    Apart from walking,there are two other ways to go up Bairro alto from Baixa: the "Elevador de Santa Justa" designed and built by the French architect "Eiffel"or else you can use one of the two "funicular-like" trams.
    The Bairro Alto was originally developed in the 16th Century as a residential quarter for traders. Now it has become a centre for nightlife with its many fashionable restaurants, bars and clubs
  • ALFAMA. The Apartment is located very close to Campo de Santa Clara, the square where Lisbon''''''''s famous market - Feira da Ladra - is held every Tuesday and Saturday. Close to this area you can visit Panteão Nacional ou called Church of Santa Engrácia with the tombs of historic and literary figures of Portuguese national history (Vasco da Gama or Amália Rodrigues, the famous fado singer).

    This district is very beautiful, you can walk through small streets that cross several areas of Lisbon: from Mouraria to Alfama and São Jorge Castle. Taking the famous tram number 28 you will do a scenic route crossing most of the tourist neighbourhoods of the city centre. A definite must for any visitor to Lisbon. In Worth your visit is as well: Miradouro of Santa Luzia, Museu of Fado and Portuguese guitar, Azulejo Museum.


  • ROSSIO. The Square D. Pedro IV, better known for its old name, Rossio, has constituted the heart of Lisbon for six centuries. It’s situated in the area of the “Baixa Pombalina”, which was totally reconstructed, following the project of “Marquês de Pombal”, after the earthquake that seriously damaged Lisbon in 1755. Today its “pombalinos” buildings are occupied by shops, jewellers and cafes. In the north side of the square you’ll find the National Theatre D. Maria II and in the east side, the Carmo Convent (Archaeological Museum of the Carmo), next to the hill of the Castle of São Jorge (Saint George). This area is very well served by public transport (underground, train, bus, tramway), is ideal in order to discover the historical centre of Lisbon (Praça do Comércio, Alfama, Avenida da Liberdade, etc.) or any other area of tourist interest in the capital. The charming train station of Rossio, which deserves to be visited, connects with the line of Sintra.
  • BAIXA.This section of Lisbon was the pride of Pombal and the very heart of his own great city. Certain activities have stayed in their historic buildings, such as the fish market at Cais de Sodre. From an architectural point of view places to view are the squares of Praça do Comercio and the Rossio. Also of interest is the church of Conceição Velha, the Se (Cathedral), and the 16th Century Casa dos Bicos.

  • CHIADO.Since 1755 the Chiado is the artistic and elegant neighborhood of Lisbon.   • CAMPO GRANDE-QUINTA DO LAMBERT. Residential zone near to the airport. Thanks to the public transport, is very well connected with the city centre of this impressive capital. At the end of the subway line (Cais do Sodré Station) you can catch the train to Cascais (30 minutes). You can also pick a train to the historic and picturesque village of Sintra.
  • ALVALADE. Apartment is located in a residential area of the city, just next to avenida de roma, 5 minutes walking distance from the metro station that takes you in 15 minutes directly to the city centre or to oriental zone with expo98. It is a quiet zone with many green spaces, restaurants, supermarkets, traditional commerce and markets. It is only 8 minutes from the airport. Nearby you can find the museum calouste gulbenkian and the museum josé mallet, galveias palace, the bullring, and other sport clubs, parks and shopping centers.
  • ALCÂNTARA. Alcântara means bridge in Arab. And in fact the famous 25th April Bridge is situated here!
    Located just 10 minutes from the historical city centre, this part of the city offers the best places to go out during the night. You have the docks under the bridge with many bars, restaurants and discos like the very famous disco “The Kremlin “and “The Kapital”. You can profit with the magnificent view of the bridge and the sunset. Nearby you have the wonderful neighbourhood of Belem.


  • LUMIAR. Residential zone near to the airport. Less then 10 minutes to the city centre (10€ with luggage by taxi). Close to Museu do Traje and Museu do Teatro, you will reach almost all museums in downtown in no more them 30 minutes by metro or bus (Metro Station Ameixoeira, 20 minutes far, Yellow line). Several restaurants and supermarkets in the nearby. Five minutes by car to Golf country of Paço do Lumiar. Also next to the Lisbon NORTE–SUL ring, which give easy access to get to the city centre by car. This zone is next to the two biggest Lisbon’s football club stadiums, Benfica and Sporting. Even if for those who don’t like soccer, these modern stadiums deserve to be visited for their architectural value.
  • CAPARICA. Town of the municipality of Almada (District of Lisbon) located in the southern margin of the mouth of the Tejo River. It is surely one of the first white sand beaches chosen by the majority of the inhabitants of Lisbon. In this town the fishing tradition is still visible in the beaches, where the traditional fishing boats still come to unload some fish and to sell it directly, but also in the typical markets of the zone. It is also known to be the “granary” of the Portuguese capital, by its vegetables production. Costa de Caparica is 13 km far from Lisbon by car and to 12 minutes by boat (Transtejo), crossing Tejo River. Animated in the summer, melancholic in the winter, the enchantment of this town, allied to the extensive offer in restaurants, shopping and the night life won’t leave indifferent the one who visits it.
  • CAMPO DE OURIQUE is one of Lisbon’s districts. It is located in the heart of the city between the districts of Amoreira, Estrela and Prazeres. It is a residential district which was previously and is currently characterised by commercial activity. This district is full of life and appears to be a small city within the great metropolis that is Lisbon. The dynamic form of the local area is such that it is difficult to differentiate working days from week-ends. Another striking factor is the extreme politeness of the people.
  • CARNIDE is located in the North of Lisbon; it is one of the largest districts of the city (with a built-up land and population). The district was integrated to Lisbon’s agglomeration in 1885. This area is served by a good public transport, you’ll get to the centre in a few minutes from there.
  • ALCOCHETE is a Portuguese village with fifteen thousand inhabitants, integrated into the district of Setúbal, a region of Lisbon. It’s the headquarter of the Natural Park of the Estuary of the “Tejo”, which still possesses some active salt mines and where flocks of flamingos come home to nest. Alcochete is known for its tauromáquica tradition (bullfighting tradition) and its proximity to the longest bridge of Europe, Vasco of Gamma (17 km in length). This is one of two bridges that join Lisbon to the south edge of the river “Tejo”. Thanks to its recent construction you will find in this locality one of the biggest commercial shopping centres (Freeport) and leisure complex of Europe. In this centre you will enjoy many facilities, which include among others, 11 cinemas, some discos, restaurants and shopping. Public transport is excellent with the bus bringing you to Lisbon in 20 minutes. The beaches of the Costa Azul (Blue Coast) and the Costa do Sol (Coast of the Sun) are also nearby.
  • EL PARQUE DAS NAÇÕES. Parque das Nações (Nations'' Park) is a leisure, commercial and residential area in Lisbon. It covers an extensive area in northeastern Lisbon next to the Tagus estuary, formerly used for mainly industrial purposes. The area underwent a tremendous transformation in the 1990s when it was chosen as the location for the Expo ''98 World Exhibition. After the exhibition, the area got its current name and more transformations occurred such as the new Vasco da Gama shopping mall, the Lisbon''s International Fair complex, hotels and many new office and residential buildings. An estimated 15.000 people currently live in the Nations'' Park, which is halved between the Lisbon and Loures municipalities. Many attractions built for the Expo ''98 remained and keep drawing visitors, such as the Oceanarium, one of the world''s biggest aquariums.
  • Lapa, a calm neighbourhood, where the up and down streets offer you river and city views. The typical houses are side by side with the old monasteries and buildings of the XIX century. Close to Madragoa, the historical neighbourhood of fishermen and to Santos, one of the nightlife centres of Lisbon, famous by its bars, restaurants and design shops.
    You can walk to National Art Museum and to Basilica da Estrela. You can take the famous tram route 28 that leads you to Bairro Alto, Chiado, Baixa, S. Jorge castle and Alfama. Nearby you can also take bus 727 to Belém or the train in Santos station to visit the beautiful beaches of Estoril and Cascais.


  • CASTELO. This district is one of the finest in Lisbon and it’s well-known for the presence of many nice tiny streets with some really beautiful balconies. Even if there’s a little slope, the landscape and the good smell of food coming from the restaurants make the walk pleasant.

    Before arriving to the castle you’ll find a small esplanade with one of the best views of Lisbon and it is worth entering the Castle to enjoy the landscape and the nature.

    From here you can see the entire city, and the « 25 of April » Bridge on the horizon. The district is connected to Alfama by the typical tram nº 28, which will take you to the most important attractions of the city.


  • CACILHAS. Popular typical neighbourhood, where the inhabitants of Lisbon always go to enjoy the many fish restaurants and the wonderful view over the whole Lisbon (Elevador Panorámico Boca do Vento y Cristo Rei). The district is the ideal place to live the real life of the Portuguese people, with many shops and restaurants (they are 36 in the whole area). The public transport is very efficient and in addition in a few minutes walking you can reach the center of Lisbon, together with Bairro Alto, Baixa-Chiado, Praça do Trade. From Cacilhas you can catch the ferry to Belem.
