Taormina District Source

  • PADRE PIO. This is a residential area, which is ideal for a quiet holiday. From here you can easily reach the biggest tourist attractions. The old town is about a 5 minute walk away. Here you can find many restaurants, bars and shops. To get to the beaches you may use either the public transport or a cablecar.

  • LETOJANNI. Resort town with sandy beaches, only 5 km from the centre of Taormina’s. Letojanni was an old fisherman’s village. In the old part typical buildings can still be found, restored maintaining the original architectural elements, like for example the “Case dei Pescatori” (the house of the fisherman) of Contrada Sillemi. The area is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation with many almond, olive, lemon and orange trees. Here you will easily find restaurants and shops where you can buy typical Sicilian food and craftwork. The Sagra del pesce e dell’anguria (the feast of fish and watermelon) is held in August.

  • GIARDINI DI NAXOS. The oldest Greek colony in Sicily (734 BC), Giardini di Naxos is famous not only for it’s wide bay and it’s beaches, but also for it’s archaeological area. The Archaeological Museum has got pieces, which date back to the IV –II Century BC. You may also visit the Spanish defensive bastion from the 17th Century. Taormina’s city centre is 7km from here and it can be reached by a public bus (in the summer it runs until midnight). From Recanati beach you can reach the delta of Alcantara River by foot, an area of great natural interest: both the ornitological observation and the vegetation richness are worth the visit. In Giardini di Naxos there is also a sporting port with 25 moors. Due to it’s marine character, most of the local traditional dishes, refined and highly valued, are based on fish.
