Amsterdam Smart Drugs
The smarts drugs are nootropics drugs, from the Greek, nous; mind and tropes; direction, i.e. substances which in one-way or another, stimulate the mind. They are also known as enhancers of cognition or memory processes. And in this classification we find drugs (defined as substances with abuse potential), nutritional supplements and compounds found in food. Their effects include functional areas such as Mnesis (memory), intelligence, attention and concentration. These substances currently prescribed, mainly for disorders that affect memory, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s or attention deficit due to hyperactivity disorder. Also, because of their potential neuroprotective effects, are also prescribed in situations of cardiovascular disease. Nootropic drugs appear to increase cerebral blood flow and decrease committed glucose metabolism in the adjacent cellular tissue.

The first nootropic agent dates from the 60′s; the famous piracetam, widely used in patients with Alzheimer’s and dementia and in strokes. The widely used and known amphetamines were synthesized in the late nineteenth century.
Among the stimulants, the smarts drugs’ mechanism of action is based on their agonist or antagonist effects on various neurotransmitters in our brain. The stimulants that are within the drug class of amphetamines are widely known, because they act primarily in a dual way on adrenergic and dopaminergic neurotransmitters. Probably they are, the better understood by both users and by the medical community. Among these are the modafinil (used in narcolepsy), ephedrine and methamphetamine among many others. Nicotine or piracetam analogs act mainly on acetylcholine (with a very important role in memory and concentration).
Serotonergic agents are closely related to depression. Although today we know that everything is much more complex than a neurotransmitter correlate with a disorder or a functional area of the brain. Among these, we highlight the precursor tryptophan, which is found in many foods, and the famous antidepressants called selective inhibitors of serotonin reuptake, such as citalopram, fluoxetine, paroxetine, etc. ..
Among the vitamins and supplements that act on cognition, we have vitamin B, omega 3 acids and isoflavones found in leguminous plants. Other substances that can be found in nature are ginkgo biloba, cocaine, caffeine, protein and xanthines in chocolate.
To understand how these substances work, we must understand how our brain learns. In the process of learning, neural connections are established between our neurons so that they can store the information learned. We call this phenomenon neuronal plasticity. As we do not create new neurons, neural connections are those that have this role at the synapse both in a chemical and electrical way.
Advanced science has the a priori objective of curing diseases and improving the quality of life, although we know that economic interests are not always motivated to take this premise.
Amsterdam is known for the large number of substances that can be found in it. But we are not all doctors, so we should be careful with what we buy and what we take. Enjoy the city in the most natural way, which is renting apartments in Amsterdam
