PALMA - OLD TOWN. The centre of the city is the historic Old Town, which consists of a stylistic mix of Spanish-Catalan and Arab influences. The many tourist attractions of the old town, are connected together by narrow alleys and stairways: the middle point is the “Placa Major”, 31 Gothic churches like the Basilica of “Sant Francesc”, the Gothic cathedral “La Seu”, right next to the “Almudaina Palace”, the Arab baths from the Muslim era, and the stock exchange “La Lonja” on the harbour promenade “Paseo Maritimo”. The "Paseo Maritimo" is the “going out area” of Palma, where you can find numerous bars and nightclubs. From there you can see the castle "Castell de Bellver" - one of the only round built castles of Europe. In the eastern direction of the city lies the sandy beach “Platja de Palma”, which is about 10 km long and goes as far as “S''Arenal”. The public transport in the city consists of a narrow city bus network, and the Metro of Palma.
