ARTÀ. On the north-eastern coast of Majorca is sistuated the small town called Artá, about 60km faraway from the island''s capital, Palma. Artá was originally built on a hill, on which top you can nowadays visit the pilgrimage church of "Sant Salvador" surrounded by old city walls.
Here you will have a wonderful view over the town, the coast and the almond and olive plantations. The main attractions of this region are the caves "Cuevas de Artá" on the coast of Canyamel and the Regional Museum of Artá on “Plaça d'' Espanya”. In Artá there furthermore many bars, cafes and restaurants and the weekly market, where you can buy regional products, is on Tuesday. In this part of the island, there are numerous small bays with sandy beaches and sand dunes and in some of them (like Cala Rajada for example, one of the most interesting one) you can make water sports and activities, like surfing or diving.
