COLONIA SANT JORDI. Is a former fishing village located in the south-eastern part of the island, and is now a popular holiday resort. Colonia belongs to the municipality of “Ses Salines”, whose name comes from the salt mines in the region. In ancient times the salt was traded and was considered as being “white gold”. You will pass the salt mines, if you go to the famous beach “Es Trenc”, which is the longest natural beach of Mallorca - about 9km long. Behind the sandy beach with turquoise sea water, there is a pine forest, which is a nature reserve. Among the dunes, you can find nudist areas. There is also a sandy beach near the port, called "Es Carbó. In the village you can reach everything comfortably by foot, or by bicycle. The market takes place every Wednesday afternoon. There are various buses to Palma daily (Distance: ca.50km). A worthwhile destination to visit is the uninhabited island “Cabrera”, which is a nature reserve.
