BOUILLANTE. Bouillante is a French town, situated in the archipelago of Guadeloupe. The city is located 25 Km away from Basse-terre, the administrative capital, and 40 Km away from Pointe-à-Pitre, the commercial city. The territory also covers the National Park. Bouillante is situated in the west of the island and covers the pouring western volcanic mass of Basse-terre that throws itself abruptly into the Caribbean Sea. Bouillante was one of the first towns to be populated by the French in Guadeloupe, in 1638. The town was initially a renowned agricultural town for its coffee and cocoa as well as the creole gardens. Bouillante is the Guadelopean capital of submarine diving and you will find many beautiful beaches such as, Petite-Anse, Anse à Sables et Malendure with its famous barrier of coral that accommodates the prestigious Cousteau Reserve. To the East, a big mountainous chain crosses the town in a North-South axis. This is known as the Domaniale forest.
