Apartments in La Palma -- Budget Holiday Rentals

Forming part of the Canary Islands, La Palma is a greener version of its neighbours. Here, verdant forests scatter the landscape in the north, whilst the south is characterized by sprawling desert scenes studded with epic volcanic craters and unusual rock formations. In fact, the landscape is so impressive that the entire island has been named a UNESCO biosphere reserve. Unlike the other Canary Islands, La Palma isn't a beach hotspot, which means its favoured by hikers and nature lovers instead of sun-seekers. And, in the centre of it all, the 16th century capital boasts exquisite architecture and grand mansions. La Palma is the perfect place for outdoor lovers who are on the hunt for a landscape that's entirely different from the rest of Europe. From our La Palma apartments, you can discover everything on offer and more.

4 Amazing Outdoor Landscapes to Explore in La Palma

  • Caldera de Taburiente National Park -- This expansive green park is made up of jutting mountain peaks, hidden waterfalls, and blankets of pine trees, all of which come together to form an incredible backdrop for hikers, bikers, and wildlife enthusiasts.
  • Los Cancajos -- Set on the coast with an impressive mountainous backdrop, this popular resort is a firm favourite with holidaymakers who are looking for somewhere to soak up the summer sun and relax with beautiful views. As well as wild and rugged beaches, the resort is home to plenty of shops, restaurants, bars, and cafes to check out.
  • Roque de los Muchachos -- Situated on the cusp of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park, this rocky mound juts almost 2,400m above sea level and forms a wonderful observation point for marveling at the incredible surrounding sea views. It's the highest point on the entire island and well worth a visit if you want to be blown away by beautiful landscapes.
  • Teneguia -- This unusual quirk in the landscape is actually a monogenetic cinder cone, a volcanic vent which is no longer active. Though it doesn't particularly look like a volcano, it erupted in 1971 and can be seen alongside Volcan San Antonio, a more stereotypical version of a volcano.

The Cultural Museums of La Palma

As well as an abundance of natural landscapes, La Palma is also home to a fascinating heritage and culture, which is evident in its array of museums dotted around the island. Whatever narrative you're looking to explore, there's an institution that will guide you along the way.

The Museo de la Seda is a silk factory that documents the traditional silk making process from the 16th century up until the present day. The island is known for its silk-making industry which has barely changed since its beginnings. As well as a museum that exhibits a range of beautiful silk garments, there are also interactive showcases that highlight the processes and history of the industry.

Elsewhere, the Museo Casa Roja is set inside an eye-catching red mansion and plays host to numerous exhibits on embroidery and Corpus Christi (a festival that sees streets bloom with intricate flower carpets). In addition, the interior of the museum is well worth a wander, with its gorgeous imperial staircase and delicate tiled floors.

Then there's the Museo Insular, which can be found inside a rustic 16th century monastery. This weird and wonderful museum focuses on a range of unique exhibits, from Guanche skulls to stuffed birds, pickled reptiles, and hundreds of ornate shells. Aside from this, there are galleries filled to the brim with 20th century Spanish paintings and some newer pieces of contemporary art.

If you're into seafaring, check out the Museo Naval, the island's naval museum, which is home to impressive model ships, documents, and marine-related displays.

Our La Palma apartments are dotted all over the island, so you'll be able to find a fascinating museum close by, wherever you choose to stay.

Getting Around La Palma

Getting around La Palma is easy, thanks to its efficient public transport system. Though there aren't any trains to hop on and off, the island does boast an incredibly reliable bus service that's cheap and really easy to use. The routes connect up most of the major attractions and offer some incredible scenes along the way.

You can get from one Canary Island to another via boat. There are regular ferry services throughout the day that connect up La Palma with its beautiful neighbours for very reasonable prices.

One of the best ways to explore the island is by hiring a car of your own, which you can pick up from the airport or from one of the pick-up points in the resorts and capital. Having your own form of transport means you can easily explore the unique landscapes of La Palma at your own pace, and stop off in tiny villages that the buses don't venture into.

If you're just looking to get quickly from one place to somewhere nearby, you can always grab a taxi. Prices are cheap if you agree on a number before your journey begins.
