Apartments in New York – Cheap Holiday Rentals

The Big Apple. The City of Skyscrapers. NYC: Call it however you like but New York City is undoubtedly one of the most spectacular cities on the whole planet. Its skyscrapers, urban life and symbols such as the Statue of Liberty make this American city the most famous city in the world. Without doubt, a visit to New York is something that everyone should do at least once in a lifetime so rent apartments in New York and come and discover this fascinating city.

What to do in New York

There’s always something new to do here but during your first visit, there are some essentials you must do. Going up the Statue of Liberty on Ellis Island is definitely one of them, to enjoy some amazing views, although not as amazing as those from the top of the Empire State Building, equally as amazing as the one you get standing on Brooklyn Bridge. A walk around Central Park is also a must, an oasis of peace and quiet in the middle of the city. Manhattan is the heart of NYC, where you can find Wall Street, Grand Central Station, Times Square and its neon lights, the United Nations or even Ground Zero, the place where the World Trade Center used to stand. In terms of museums, none are bigger than the Guggenheim or the MoMA. Follow that up by going to a play on Broadway or shopping on Fifth Avenue, and if you can go there in one of the famous yellow cabs, all the better.

Boroughs of New York

Manhattan is the heart of the city, an island with perpendicular streets where almost all the activity in the Big Apple focuses on. All the attractions are here but, for more peace and quiet, head southeast to Brooklyn, where you can find trendy bars and restaurants as well as the city’s beaches, a great place to find cheap apartments in New York outside the city hustle. North of Brooklyn is Queens, one of the most multicultural districts in the world, where both of the city’s main airports are located. Further north is the Bronx, the home of the New York Yankees baseball team and beautiful botanic gardens and the zoo. South of the bay is Staten Island, pure suburbia.

When to visit New York

The city has a varied climate, with hot summers and freezing cold winters, when the city is snowed up and has a very Christmassy feeling. Rain isn’t too frequent so it depends whether you want to visit the city under the sun in Central Park or in the winter cold and enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.

Getting around New York

JFK and Newark are the two international airports whilst LaGuardia is the national one. The city’s underground is a cheap and quick way to get around, as are the famous yellow cabs, albeit not as quick. Non-American citizens will need to purchase an ESTA Visa before entering the country.

Festivals and parties in New York

New Year’s Eve in Times Square is a worldwide-known tradition, as are the St Patrick’s Day Parades in the city, when New York dresses in green and drinks Guinness nonstop. Halloween in October is also a famous American tradition.
